DuckDuckGo Email – free email forwarding service

DuckDuckGo Email Protection is a free email forwarding service that removes hidden trackers from emails and lets you to create public and private DuckDuckGo email addresses.

If you’re not familiar with DuckDuckGo, let’s start with a quick introduction. DuckDuckGo is an internet search engine that focuses on protecting users’ privacy. It was launched in 2008 as an alternative to Google Search, and it is designed to provide a secure and private search experience. DuckDuckGo doesn’t track you and doesn’t store any personal information or search history. You can find relevant, accurate results without compromising your privacy.

DuckDuckGo Email Protection is one of its services. It lets you create an @duck.com email address and forward emails to your regular inbox. The service removes hidden email trackers and gives you more control over the data shared with third-party.

One concern that might arise is that their domain might get blocked at some point (it happened to Mailinator). I guess that is a possibility, but DuckDuckGo Email works a little differently. It provides the static address user@domain, allows you to reply from your DuckDuckGo address, and a random private Duck address is just one of its features. It can be used almost like an actual email account, so let’s hope it won’t happen.

You may prefer to have masked email service on your own domain. In that case, you can take a look at Fastmail masked emails. I also like to have things on my domain, but in this case, I think it may be less private. You expose your domain, so it can be assigned to you (depending on the domain name, who else is using it, WHOIS data, etc.). Anyway, ownership (more control) is always a plus, so depending on your needs that’s a viable option (as well as a catch-all service with proper filters on your email server).
